Grading. Pulled some muscles. Ow ow ow. I've got to be more careful if I'm going to lift weights.
So that's it-- a quickie album of photos you're not likely to see in a "real" update. The next one will be kinda plot-heavy, so fitting this in will be hard, unless it looks as though I will have to split the chapter in half and need some more photos.

I did some more tests. I tried out Lyran skin and Lyran eyes, vs. Maxis skin and icinitos eyes. I pretty much decided that I like the Lyran skin a lot, and that I think Robin's right--it's so subtle a difference that if I change in between chapters, it'll be barely noticeable. I'm not so nuts about the Lyran eyes, though. it looks to me as though they flash an odd sort of glazy look, and that's all the colors, not just brown. And I like those bright candy colors, so my current default eyes stay in for now.
I took some test shots at some houses based on the range of skin tones, and they happen mostly to be Robin-related houses, or other simself houses. So while the actual blow by blow ("This is Lyran. This is Maxis") would be a little dull, I thought you might like to see some pictures of spares and simselves. And if you like, you can guess what skin I used for each shot.
The first test house I used was Bar and Skip's house. That's a good one to pick, because it has all four skintones. Bar is #1, I think Kimberleigh is #2, Andrew and Skip are #4, and Leia is #3. So you get an idea of all the skin tones together.
I got a couple of nice pictures.
Robin's daughter with Mortimer, Barbarella, and her husband Skip:

And their daughter, Robin's granddaughter Leia Goodytwoshoes:

Leia just grew up. She's a Family Sim with the LTW of Education Minister. She's also good friends with Fred. I'm really enjoying playing all the houses now. It doesn't take that much longer and it's worth it for the kids and teens to become friends before college.
Then I popped over to Judy and Ratna's place. I had everyone sit on the sofa and they had to wait until Count Whoopie woke up. The actual test shots aren't that interesting. I couldn't tell if the skins are changed in any way. Perhaps Count Whoopie was a fraction paler-- think the vampire skin is a makeup--something like that? Anyway, it didn't change much of anything, but while they were waiting, Judy and Ratna did this on free will:

It's funny. They're so shy and they are so disapproving of public displays of affection--when someone else does it, that is!
A quick pop over to Michelle and De Beers' place, and . . .
De Beers: Michelle, have you got something in your eye?

And a quick look in at Lytton's:
Victoria definitely has gray eyes and I think RubyBlue's custom skin.
Lytton: Can I have five more children, please?
NO. I am done with Six Married Children.

Most couples will only have one child: Casca/Gwen and Earnest/Poppaea have to have three apiece, unluckily, for their Mom's LTW. The heiress has to be a girl, but if we get two girls right away, that will be enough. I'm looking at about twenty kids (which is why they're mostly marrying other playables, and mostly having one at most two kids.
I had one last test:
Sim Me: Smile for the camera.

Yes, my simself produced THAT. It keeps me humble.
Testing done, it was time to head over to Marcellus and Minora's place to grow Domitilla up. That's the official Caesar house, so I really do have to get Domitian married off. Can't let the Caesars die out, after all.
I keep hearing people talking about pants fish. . .well, where does a Roman put a fish, hmmm?--especially one that size?

There's not a whole lot to do there, so I tried out some new stuff, or stuff I don't do at other houses. Why not let Domitilla play with a Twirl, Spin and Wobble? Her Mom has one in inventory. "Spin/Hard" has results much like the grown-ups Dance Sphere, right down to throwing up.

Domitilla also got the first bird I ever bought. He seems to be staying alive so far. This is Aquila:
Domitilla: Swoop down and kill, Aquila!
Aquila: RAWWWK give us a bird nut.
Domitilla: No, no! Kill!

There's also time for more traditional pursuits, like cheating simselves at chess. You'll notice SimNerd's choice of topic. Some Knowledge Sim!

I think Domitilla grew up to be cute. She had a big party, with a lot of Romans invited. The problem is that they all have way too many outgoing points: "Mooooo ska!" "Shorba ko!" There was a lot of bathroom swarming. Folks, there are THREE bathrooms. You don't all have to use the same one.
Janice stalked Secundus into the bathroom. He couldn't get out, and they have three freakin' bolts, and when they started to Friendly Hug with five relationship points, I knew it was time to get him outta there. Aside from the fact that she's married and that he's in love with Cecilia, this is his "aunt Janice" we're talking about. She came over to the house when he was a teenager and it's just creepy. Family Sims, GAH.

Domitilla rolled Family. Here I have to confess that in spare households, I sometimes re-rolled the LTW. Fred, for example, originally rolled Six Pets Top Careers. Domitilla rolled Six Married Children. I'm coming up to Generation Eight soon, and I don't want my legacy to explode from sheer bloat. So LTWs that involve lots of pets or lots of children, or even another Five Businesses--they're not happening for spares. The Legacy house is different--there they roll what they roll and that's it.

Date: 2008-06-10 05:44 pm (UTC)Domitilla did grow up pretty. I don't blame you for re-rolling some of those LTWs. I've been good so far in the main households with those coming up as second or third LTWs (except for Helen), so I don't have to worry about them.
I imagine your neighborhood's getting pretty full right about now, with all the Goodytwoshoeses AND all the Romans producing heirs and spares. I'm on Gen 5, and am relieved that things are still manageable for now.

Date: 2008-06-11 04:06 am (UTC)I think the only sim my simself had a lot of bolts for (three) was Jeeves. I had to set them to family to get them to quit it. Oh, yes, and Lytton. That one can get awkward. Other Pb had a hysterical picture of her heart-barfing her boss, Roche. Over and over and over.

Date: 2008-06-10 07:20 pm (UTC)Domitilla did grow up very pretty. Marcellus seems to be incapable of having un-pretty children.
I'm with you on the LTW thing for your spares. I know I tend to be a bit more liberal with my spare houses. One of Meadow and Jeremiah's kids rolled Romance, but it was really very wrong for his personality. I thought about doing the nerdy Romancer direction with him, but I'm already doing that with Beta. So, Caleb got a free reroll.

Date: 2008-06-11 04:10 am (UTC)Domitilla's brother Domitian got a bad case of Cassiusmouth, but it looks as though he's going to wind up with a really pretty girl, so that should nuke the ikky genes.

Date: 2008-06-11 02:41 pm (UTC)Isn't it fun to test different skintones? I think it's really neat to see how different the same sim can look.
So Victoria is only little one for me and Lytton? I've been meaning to ask, what color is her hair?

Date: 2008-06-11 04:30 pm (UTC)As for Victoria--I believe that's brown hair, and it's the hair she grew up in. I like having lots of different shades of brown hair in the bins. I'd have more red, but so many reds out there are really purple. Victoria is probably the only kid you guys will have, but maybe not. We're getting a big college population next time, but most of it will be Roman. So we'll see. And Victoria, anyway, has got a guaranteed spot at Goodygirls.
